A lot of companies (more and more every day) are giving their customers the "environmentally friendly" option of having electronic copies of their purchase receipts emailed or texted to them.
While this technically does reduce waste, albeit an almost indefinably minuscule amount that's dwarfed by simply not printing receipts unless the customer asks for one, what they really want is your contact info.
I made the mistake of having Dick's Sporting Goods email me a receipt once, in case I had to return an item, and they probably hit my Spam folder about ten times a day - for going on five years, now.
LPT: Don't opt for an emailed or texted receipt unless you're a big fan of spam.
