If you're ever having issues with your WiFi signal, here is a single terminal command that will help you out.
I call it the WiFi Geiger counter.
It will make audible or visible beeps regularly. As you move around with your laptop and the signal becomes weaker, it will become irregular, skip beats, and eventually become quiet. It will be very obvious how reliable the connection is at any spot. As you get to the edge of coverage, you will find that it is sensitive to literally the last centimeter or degree of orientation of your device.

Open the terminal application.
-
Type this:
ping -a -i 0.25 192.168.0.1
This is for Mac or Linux. If you know the Windows equivalent, feel free to share.
If the IP of your router is different, look at the connection details for your IP, and replace the last number with 1 (for most network). It's also called the gateway IP.
If you see it but don't hear it, dig into the terminal settings to enable the "audible bell".
Now go map the WiFi coverage of your house like a pro.
