LPT: Wildfires are unpredictable and fast moving. Do not wait for a mandatory evacuation, especially if a wildfire is near before bedtime.
Your reaction times are much slower at night, and you will often need time to rouse yourself or your family. Go spend the night elsewhere instead, if it is at all accessible to you. Otherwise, have a trusted friend who is alert, awake, and watching the news call you if there is any change. And leave your cell phone on VERY LOUD right next to your head.
If you are hearing suggestions that it's time to evacuate, even if it's not official, it's probably time to go. Don't keep your bugout bag in your closet. Keep it by the door, or in the trunk. Do not have separate bags for your small children. Keep your car seats buckled in and ready to go.
Don't risk it. Yes, you might feel abashed for a few days if you evacuate unnecessarily, but you will regret for the rest of your life if you don't evacuate when you should have.
Do not assume that you can outrun or out-drive a wildfire. They are very fast moving and often in multiple sites. I know wildland firefighters who have avoided being burned over only by seconds and they are experts.
Emergency crews are doing the best they can, but you are your own best advocate in an emergency. They move more slowly at night, too.
I know I've left out a lot of important info, so get some suggestions going in the thread.
