Putting a person up on a pedestal for excellence in one part of their life can lead to simplistic judgements about a person's worth. It's the first step on the way to hero worship. Since we all have the capacity for noble and shitty things, being able to separate the two can help combat the urge to equivocate when a person you like does something shitty or a person you dislike does something good.
Admiring behavior over people can be empowering, because while I can never be <successful person>, I can certainly emulate that person's positive conduct.
