LPT: If you're writing a check as a gift for a newly married couple, write it out as "Mr. OR Mrs. Smith" and not as "Mr. AND Mrs. Smith." In many cases the bride either won't have her name changed yet or won't be taking the groom's name.

I just got married and my wife and I are sitting on a bunch of checks that we can't deposit because they are written as "Mr. and Mrs. M0T0RB04T." We're just waiting until the marriage certificate gets mailed to us from the county... in 2 to 4 weeks. We are very grateful for the money but it would be nice if we had access to it now. That wedding was expensive!
