When I started at my company there was all this messaging about "Oh we're friendly and you can come to us with anything." Fast forward a month, I call our compliance department to vet something that I thought could be a conflict of interest, and they said they would get back to me. They never did get back to me, but the compliance officer I spoke to has been emailing my direct manager to "check in" on my compliance training courses I'm supposed to be taking (and coincidentally have already completed). Based on my manager's reaction it seems odd that this compliance officer is messaging him directly about this, especially since I'm not overdue on any of the online training.
The lesson I learned is to never draw unnecessary attention to yourself. Ever.
