Before you leave on an extended trip, do all the daily chores around your living space. Clean and fold clothes, sweep the floor, vacuum, make the bed, take out the trash, do the dishes, etc. It will make the space seem more welcoming and home-like at the end of a long trip, and it will make it easier to be back home.
