If your ISP increases their baseline speeds, there's a chance they will NOT tell you about it unless you ask.
Before Charter became Spectrum, I insisted on having the fastest internet package they had to offer, which was 30mbps. After about a year, I started experiencing connection problems, so I called customer support. They told me they had been offering 60mbps for the same price over the previous months, and that all I had to do was swap my equipment at no additional charge.
I started having connection problems again last week, so I called Spectrum to see what was going on. They couldn't figure it out, so they sent a technician. The next day, technician shows up and tells me that their new baseline speed is 100mbps, and they've been offering it in my area for at least several months for the same price. Just had to swap my equipment again.
Honestly, I would cancel Spectrum over this fuckery, but they're all I really have out here. I figured I'd complain to the FCC about it, for whatever good that'll do. If you find out your ISP has been overcharging you, you can report them here:
