LPT: If you have a family member that frequently asks you to fix computer problems, set up remote access on their computer.
Remote access lets you control their screen so you can quickly fix their problems without having to explain it. This has saved me countless hours on the phone with my 80 year old grandma who lives out of town. Sometimes it would take me close to an hour just to explain to her how to get her email up or print something, often times without success. Now if she has an issue she can just shoot me a text and I can fix it in less than a minute and she can watch me do it and maybe learn for next time.
There is tons of free software for Windows and OSX that you can use. Hopefully this tip can help some of you who have taken the role of the "tech savvy" person in the family. Good luck!
Edit: Some good software: TeamViewer
