LPT: If you're looking to gift a homeless person something meaningful this Holiday Season, give them a 1-year gym membership that has access to showers.
I read this other redditor's post (/u/ShadeofIcarus):
You'd think that it is something that doesn't make a huge difference, but it does. It's a place where they can safely store their stuff, can shower and do their daily hygene routine, and well, the normal stuff a gym membership allows. Especially when trying to look for work, somewhere to clean up and store a set of interview clothes donated to them is priceless. A friend of mine worked his way out of homelessness, and he credits a 1yr membership to the Y he was given as a gift in part.
Personally, I've ran into many homeless people going to my gym here in SoCal. SoCal is home for a lot of people who live in their vehicles because the weather is mostly fair year-round; hence, they just go to a gym to shower.
