LPT: Leave more generous tips when you are at places you go to more often. You probably go because you like the place and you'll typically receive good service since they know you are a good tipper!
In American culture, it's customary to leave a tip for good service. My wife is from Italy and told me that all her life tipping wasn't a thing. Over the years, as she adopted the tipping culture, I noticed that when we were on vacation, she'd leave a bigger tip if she went to a spa or got a bite to eat than she did when we were at home. Noticing this, I found that I tended to do the same. We discussed it and while I'm not saying you shouldn't leave a good tip if you are pleased with everything, I am saying that leaving a generous tip at a place you frequently visit will go a lot further than leaving a very generous one at a place you'll only ever go to once in your life.
I'm posting because I was reminded of this after we went back to one of our frequent spots for dinner last night that had been closed for a long time as they did renovations. When we went in, they remembered us and we were given great service! When we got the check, there was a note thanking us for our loyalty and telling is how happy they were to see the regulars starting to come back. In the end, we left a generous tip! :)
