LPT: No third offers - Make an offer twice: Decline twice. Don't make someone continue to offer or decline.

Years ago an older gentleman with whom I worked told me this. It was in regard to someone offering to get the bill at a restaurant. I was a young guy and wouldn't let him pay for me. He said that it is okay to decline. If someone's offer isn't sincere, you have given them an out. If they make a second offer or insist, take it as they really want to do something for you.

The second part I figured out myself. Offer something. Let someone decline. If they decline a second time, they really don't want it. A third offer, insistence, makes an uncomfortable situation. Drop it.
