LPT: Thinking of adopting a pet? Right before, or immediately after a major holiday is when most shelters see an influx of surrenders.

Many shelters see an increase of furry companions immediately before a major holiday as people realize that travel or financial means are not conducive to pet ownership.

Additionally, many people buy pets for others, even if the other person doesn't have the means or desire to care for them. These pets can often be surrendered to shelters during the holiday season.

If you've been looking into adopting a pet, this is the time of year when most shelters will be filling up, and you'll have the most (for lack of a better word) 'options'.

Additional PSA: don't buy a pet for somebody else without discussing it with them. Seriously, it's not cool. Also, don't get a pet on a whim, give it some thought, decide it's right for you. It's a commitment.
