LPT: Using Wikipedia as a research tool for a school paper? While most instructors/professors won’t accept Wikipedia as a work cited, you can click the superscript hyperlink next to the facts you reference to be taken to the source for that fact.

Some teachers see that Wikipedia can be modified by anyone and think that dissolved the site’s credibility, but that’s far from true. There are plenty of volunteer fact checkers sifting through the various pages all the time for your convenience.

With that in mind, it’s still important to check up on the sources for facts you find on a Wikipedia page, and most instructors don’t like to see Wikipedia as a cited source. When you read a sentence, there is usually a small, blue, bracketed number next to it. Clicking this will take you to the part of the Wikipedia page where the sources are listed, and the fact you clicked’s source is highlighted.

Check that out and then cite it instead of Wikipedia. It’s still important to cite Wikipedia in general, because without them, you wouldn’t have your facts!
