LPT- If someone reveals a cancer diagnosis, don't immediately tell them about the person you know who had/has cancer, too. Let the person you're speaking with ask you about your experiences with cancer if they want to know.
The last thing someone dealing with their own or a loved one's cancer wants to hear is how your mom just died from it or that your aunt suffered for years. It's natural to want to relate to the other person with your own story, but allow them to ask for that kind of information if they want it.
