LPT: When applying for jobs, do it a few at a time rather than sending all your applications at once.
If you're looking for a "career" (rather than a stopgap job), there are probably only a dozen or so companies in your field where you live. Once you have applied to a company, they already have a file on you, and something would have to change dramatically for them to give you a second look, so subsequent applications may be pointless.
Send a few applications out per week, customizing each application for the role you are seeking. Doing it this way ensures that you are putting the necessary attention into each application. It also prevents you from sending the same faulty application to every job in your area, and from sending an overly generic cover letter and CV.
Ideally, only apply for posted jobs, rather than getting your CV into the black hole that is the HR department. It may also help to look at the profiles of people who have similar jobs - you may be able to pick up on keywords or skills to include in your cover letter or emphasize in your CV.
