YSK about the Windows 7/10 Disc Cleanup tool - due to the recent upgrades to Win10 Creators Edition, you can free up as much as 60GB of space on your computer!
As many of you probably know, Microsoft recently updated most Windows 10 PCs with the Creators Edition. When it does this, it keeps a backup of your old operating system, which can be very large. In some cases, you may have two OS backups (like I did).
Laptop and SSD users may find this is a significant waste of space, but you can fix it.
However, this is only performed manually and only if you select a specific option, as follows:
-
Click Start
-
Type "cleanup" - select "Disk cleanup"
-
Click "Clean up system files"
-
Scroll through the list and check any of these that you see:
(1) Windows Update Cleanup
(2) Previous Windows Installation(s)
- Click to run the process. FYI - This may take 15-30 minutes.
Enjoy!
NOTE: You can also select most other options safely if desired. I like to leave the "thumbnail" option which is used for pictures when viewing icons in your folders.
