YSK: Affirmative Action is not Institutional Racism. While it is true that it is a "social institution that gives negative treatment to a group of people based on their race", it is not part of a *pattern* of institution-driven negative treatment, and therefore does not fit that definition.

I've known about the concept of Institutional Racism for years, but I now know that I didn't fully understand it until (real talk) moments ago.

Why this is important to know is clear; knowing the true definition of something as serious as Institutional Racism will help you in your ability to fight it.

Definition of Institutional Racism (emphasis mine):

Institutional racism is a pattern of social institutions — such as governmental organizations, schools, banks, and courts of law — giving negative treatment to a group of people based on their race.
