In the moment, you're more likely to act out of emotion, rather than a desire to correct and foster positive behavior. If anger is a vehicle for pain, a kid will learn to associate the two. This can make it difficult for them to express their own emotions or hyperaware of others' reactions.

If you give yourself time, you're more likely to create a fair, appropriate consequence.
