YSK that if you, or anyone you know, are insured under UnitedHealthcare, you may be eligible for $50 credits towards over-the-counter products 4 times a year.
Disclaimer: I am not exactly sure which healthcare plan under UnitedHealthcare this can be attributed to; May have to do with Medicare.
This may only be available for senior citizens. If you are one, or know those who are, and are insured under UHC, check to see if they are eligible for OTC-essential credits, quarterly every year.
-Go to http://ift.tt/2tJWm0T
-You will need the insurance number and additional info to create an account (for free).
-If you are eligible, you will be taken to the home screen upon creating a new account and see $50.00 credits available in the top right.
There are a bunch of products from categories including Stomach Remedies, First Aid, Oral Care, Incontinence, Pain Management, Cold, Cough & Allergy, Eye & Ear Care, Vitamins and Supplements, Bath Safety, Leg & Foot Care, Home Medical, and Therapeutic Skin Care.
The OTC products are mostly off-brand, but listed with a 'compared to' their popular brand counterpart; for example they have 'Allergy Relief Minitabs' 100ct for a credit of $10 compared to 'Benadryl Allergy Ultratab' 100ct which goes for around $12. They do have Colgate battery powered toothbrushes and replacement heads at $14 credit and $8 credit, respectively.
You may be wondering, 'Well the $10 off brand compared to the $12 Benadryl isn't much of a difference...' and you'd be right, except for the fact that you get $50 in credits so it would actually be free up to that $50 (You could order 5 off brand 100 ct allergy tablets if you wanted). Anyway, if you believe $2 isn't anything to fret over, than this probably isn't for you.
You have to used at least $30 in credits in the order and have to pay for any difference above $50. As mentioned, this is quarterly per year with orders needing to be placed by March 31st, June 30th, September 30th, and December 31st.
This has helped my grandparents out in regards to saving a few bucks in buying OTC products and using gas to get said products because the order is shipped to your front door.
If you are frugal, in a bind financially, or just lazy, this could definitely help you out. I mean I am not claiming this is life saving, but it could be helpful to some people.
If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer in the comments, as long as they have to do with the product/ordering aspect. I am ill-informed in regards to the actual insurance policy.
I am going to include the intro in the catalog from UHC below:
Your UnitedHealthcare health plan offers Over-the-Counter (OTC) Essentials that allows you to purchase health and wellness products from our website or the enclosed catalog. Each quarter, you will receive $50 in Benefit Credits to purchase health and wellness products. All orders are shipped right to you at no extra cost for shipping, handling and taxes. If you use more Benefits Credits than you have available, please include a check or money order for the difference or you may experience a delay in shipment.
Benefits Credits expire at the end of each quarter and cannot be redeemed for cash. You cannot apply future credits to your order and each order must total at least $30 in Benefits Credits. Only products in the catalog are covered under this benefits and may only be used by the plan member.
