For a lot of objects (cities, sights, countries or islands, etc) in you can activate an interactive map like this one in the english Wikipedia. It's zoomable, you see other objects nearby that also have a Wikipedia article and you can click on them to see this article also.
A lot of languages have this tool. In some other languages it's even more advanced. Like in the german Wikipedia for example, where you can change the base layer and activate hillshading and other stuff.
Some examples:
- Washington D.C.
- Cemetery of Confucius
-
Frauenkirche in Dresden/Germany as example for advanced tool
Why is something not on the map even when it has a wikipedia article?
-
all maps are based on OpenStreetMap project, which is something like Wikipedia for Maps, everyone can edit and add informations
-
your local church/castle/city etc. is not mapped completly, it needs a so called tag from wikidata
-
the process of editing is described here
