(I apologize if this isn't a NEW thing, but I only just found out about it this week.) (TL;DR at bottom) When I say more sophisticated, I mean it sounds like it's a live human person talking to you, when really it's a very well made recording, with background noises of a call center and proper voice recognition to make unique responses. The one i personally experienced today was imitating a fundraiser for a fund for relief of dead police officer's families. they say "Will you be ready to send back the envelope with your donation?" at which point i said that I'm in highschool and don't have any money. there's a brief pause and then it says "Sorry, can i speak to your mom or dad?" so i give the phone to my mom and it gives her the same monologue and she says loud and clear "NO". This is because they are trying to trick you into saying "yes, sure, okay" etc. because if they can get a recording of you saying something like this, they can stitch it together with some other recording which can get you elbow deep in the law.
TL;DR: If a phone call tries to get you to say "yes" to something, say no and hang up, they could use the recording of you saying "yes" and make a legally binding document where they make it sound like you said yes to something along the lines of emptying your bank account, etc.
