LPT: If you aren't looking for a upper level or management position, eliminate your "Objective" line in your CV and replace it with "Professional Profile" to highlight your strengths

As someone who used to get a lot of resumes at a retail store, some of the "objectives" were either boring or hilarious. Everyone looking for an entry level position has the same basic objective: to gain employment and work in the company as a manager or supervisor.

After a while you really start to wonder what the "Objective" line is supposed to be, so I asked an HR friend of mine at a university who said most objective lines are better suited for high end positions. Stuff like "to upgrade the organization in a way that will have cost reducing benefits" or something more in depth that is directly related to their abilities, skills, education, and how they will benefit the company in the long term.

I asked her what an entry level CV should look like and she said she had received a few that impressed her where the people will have a "Professional Profile" instead where they highlight their strengths. Stuff like "able to learn new skills quickly, xx years of customer service experience, love meeting new people, able to use (insert software package) with ease, experience handling large amounts of cash and use a POS machine." This prompted her to continue to read their CV to find out how many years experience, what type of experience, where they learned skills or changed skills. Stuff to justify their claims. She said these CVs prompted her to take them more seriously as a potential candidate.

Hope this helps others who get stumped on that first line of their CV, clicking the keys thinking "what the hell do I put as an objective??"
