This is an LPT I was told about before - but stupid as I am, I didn't consider it. This happened last week. I go to LA Fitness and was offered a personal training program to try out. I was given monthly prices, and was told that if I didn't like it or just choose to end it, I could. The person who told me this didn't say "monthly" or "yearly," and since he gave me monthly prices, I assumed it was a monthly thing. So I went for it.
I signed the contracts and paid for the first month. Unfortunately for me, I also forgot that I had automatic payments set up for some of my bills and left my bank account almost empty. So I go back to LA Fitness the next day and ask if I could get a refund and discontinue the personal training program.
I was told that I'm locked in for a year and if I choose to cancel, I have to pay half of what I would be spending that year. By my calculations, I'd have to pay $880 just to cancel it. So it's either I stick with paying $160/month for the next 11 months, or pay $880 to cancel it altogether.
I'm not in a good place right now after finding that out. Don't be like me. Read contracts three times - hell, read it a lot more than that if you have to. You have the right to know what you're signing/locking yourself into.
