LPT: When buying a new car try to buy from quieter rural/small-town dealerships. Because they move less volume and are still paid on commission, they are generally more inclined to negotiate a lower price to compete with big city dealerships.

I was helping a friend of mine test drive minivans at a dealership in our city (population 1.3ish million) and ran into a salesman I bought my own car from last year that was from a nearby small town. He said he and his family moved into the city because he couldn’t earn a good living because they had to undercut the big city dealerships just to make a few sales.

I’ve always noticed I could get some better deals outside the city, but it never really clued in as to why until now.
