I was given this advice many years ago. The premise of the advice is:
If you can't add one major accomplishment to your résumé on an annual basis, you're doing it wrong.
I've done this for the past 20 years or so - even when I was in no way looking for a job. You never know when your resume/CV will come in handy. This year I've been asked for it as part of the application process for a couple of volunteer opportunities.
Plus - although the usefulness of New Years' resolutions is debatable, that is often the time when we reflect on how we want the next year to be different from the past year. You can use this time to reflect on the past year to consider what you've accomplished, and you can imagine yourself updating your CV between Christmas and New years 2018 - what will you be adding?
