YSK: Corporations are actively engaged in deep corruption of publically available information, especially "trusted sources"
I'd guess everyone is savy enough to understand (or believe) that companies do this to some extent but few I suspect understand the length and breadth of the effort to corrupt/block/confuse the truth in pursuit of selling their product.
However savy you think are in bypassing their bullshit it's likely companies are aware of what you trust and target their efforts accordingly.. For example their are ghost industries that provide positive reviews for products, blog style websites that look a lot like genuine user experiences. Similarly companies will pay legions of "commenters" to linger in public forums to actively spread disinformation.
The corruption is most insidious in the US where through lobbying government advice, something people might consider trustable, is influenced by big business. This is particularly evident in health and dietary information.
TLDR; You need to understand that you're in the middle of an informational war, and in many instances trusted sources are corrupted and/or buried insude a storm of deliberately confusing (mis) information.
