LPT: When trying to diet for the first time or lose weight, think of your calories as money and the macros/nutritional value as products.

So for example, I'm currently cutting at a caloric intake of ~2000 calories. I think of that as my budget for living today and "purchase" my foods using the calories. As an example, if I look at a serving of ice-cream I'll think of it as "for 200 moneys, I'm essentially buying 40 grams of carbs and 20 grams of fat, with tiny bits of protein. That's like spending 30 dollars on bitcoin." But if I'm looking at a meal, I'd think of it as, "for 500 moneys, I'm getting 30 grams of protein, 60 grams of carbs and 20 grams of fat with lots of fibre and vitamins. That's like spending 100 dollars on apple shares!"

Little things like that often help me choose the right food groups whilst I'm craving or just generally lets me make better food choices.
